Belize is a country about the size of the state of Massachusetts, USA. Belize sits on the eastern side of Central America along the Caribbean Sea and is bordered by Mexico to the North and Guatemala to the west and south. Belize hosts approximately 450 small island (including those on the outer atolls) off its mainland shore called cayes (pronounced "keys") which range in size from tiny unpopulated mangrove clusters to large islands with towns and villages. Belize gained full independence from the United Kingdom in 1981. The official language of Belize is English, and the legal system is English Common Law. As with many British Common Law nations, Fiduciary duty is held in very high regard where the trustee is bound by law to administer property to the benefit solely to the beneficiary regardless of his own interests or beliefs. Belize has become a favorite for offshore financial services including IBC's (International Business Company), offshore trusts and international banking.
