Seychelles is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean 1,600 miles off the eastern cost of Africa and northeast of Madagascar consisting of 115 islands scattered over 386,000 square miles. Seychelles was long contested over by France and Great Britain. Great Britain prevailed and presided over the islands until 1976 when it was granted independence. Free elections in 1993 brought an era of socialist rule to a close. Official languages are French and English. The legal system is based on a combination of English and French law. Seychelles is a growing Offshore Financial center and tax haven, largely due to its efficiency. Seychelles does not suffer from the common "Island Time Syndrome" that so often can happen in other island jurisdictions.

These changes help make Seychelles an up and coming jurisdiction for offshore financial services.
